    1. About Amidships

Amidships (“we”, “us”, “the app”) is an independent study and revision tool for candidates preparing for maritime theory exams. Amidships is a trading name of The Maritime Consultancy Ltd (Company No. 13436865), a company registered in England and Wales. We are not a training provider, a recognised training centre, or an awarding body. We do not issue certificates, qualifications, or licences of any kind.

    2. Independent study tool

Amidships is independent. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by any awarding body or governing authority. References to syllabuses (e.g. Day Skipper Theory, Yachtmaster Offshore, Master 200gt, SRC) are for identification purposes only. To sit an actual exam or earn a recognised qualification, you must register with the appropriate recognised training centre or awarding body.

    3. Educational use only

All content, including questions, explanations, memory drills, and AI-generated oral examiner output, is provided for educational and revision purposes only. It is not a substitute for official course materials, qualified instruction, or current official publications (e.g. Admiralty publications, IRPCS, SOLAS, MGN/MSN notices). You must verify all information against current official sources before relying on it for navigation, safety, or examination.

    4. AI-generated content

Some features (including the AI Oral Examiner) generate responses using third-party large language models. AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. It must not be relied upon as authoritative. Always cross-reference with official syllabuses and publications.

    5. Accounts and acceptable use

You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. You agree not to: misuse the service, attempt to extract or scrape content for redistribution, share paid content with non-paying users, or use the service to harass others or violate applicable law.

    6. Payments and refunds

Paid plans and topic packs are billed as displayed at checkout. One-off purchases grant access for the duration stated on the pricing page. Subscription plans renew until cancelled. You may cancel a subscription at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis in line with consumer protection law in your jurisdiction.

    7. No warranty

The service is provided “as is”. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We do not warrant that using Amidships will result in passing any exam.

    8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Amidships and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential losses arising from use of the service, including but not limited to exam outcomes, navigational decisions, or any reliance placed on AI-generated content.

    9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated “Last updated” date above. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
